To All Westridge families
As we embark on yet another school year I would like to take a minute to tell you why we have a PTO and what we do.† I was talking with a Westridge parent just the other day and she had some hesitations about getting involved with the PTO because she thought it was a political thing.† Now being on the board you have to get voted on, but in most of our board membersí cases they werenít running for the office and didnít spend millions to get the position.† In fact many had to be coaxed into it as we needed to fill the slot.† Speaking from my own experience, I too had been asked but declined as my life is just as busy as the next families, but when the last meeting of the year came around and we had no President yet I felt it necessary to step in.† But anyway back to the political battle, the PTO is in no way shape or form a political platform. It is a group of likeminded people.† People just like you and me who have the same mission, to get our kids the best education they can possibly get!
The PTO has committed to the following:
Help teachers with classroom needs that the district canít fulfill
Supply classrooms with party food and fun for holiday parties
Assist 5th grade with outdoor education
Create activities that stimulate community, learning and fun!
Along with all these things we would like to create a goal.† Every year we collect several thousands of dollars and I would like to see it put to great use.† To help us decide what your money should be used for please come to the PTO meetings.† They are held the first Tuesday of every month in the media center.
The first meeting is Tuesday August 7th at 6:30 pm.† Hope to see you there!
